Dr Marwal is a
lecturer at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Indonesian International Islamic
University (Ƶ), and a member of then
academic senate of the university. He is also a visiting lecturer in Islamic
Law at the Postgraduate Program at Syarif
Hidayatullah State Islamic University of Jakarta. His research interests span
across the methodology of fatwa and ijtihad, comparative Islamic doctrines,
maq?sid al-shar?’a (objectives of
’a), and Islamic jurisprudence of
transactions. Dr
Marwal obtained his PhD in Islamic Studies from Mohammed V University in Rabat,
Morocco with a thesis entitled “Jurisprudential adaptation of new investment
banking finance contracts”. He completed his MA in Islamic Studies at Sidi
Mohamed Ben Abdellah University in Fez, Morocco. He was educated at Islamic
University in Madinah al-Munawwarah, Saudi Arabia where he obtained his BA in
Islamic Law.
