Faculty of Islamic Studies Enhance Students Creative Skills with Movie Projects

February 06, 2023

On Wednesday, January 25th, 2023, the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Faculty of Islamic Studies (FIS) successfully held a movie exhibition. The FIStival event is the Independent Project course's final project for FIS students. Students and the FIS lecturer sat in the Faculty A Theater Room to watch the films produced by FIS students.

Dr. Bhirawa Anoraga, a FIS Lecturer, said that this project aims to equip ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ students with digital media skills. He hopes that future FIS students will conduct research and create creative projects.

"FIStival is an event to conclude the Independent Project course offered by the faculty this semester. It aims to equip our students with digital media skills. We hope that our students not only excel in conducting research or other academic activities but also excel in producing creative projects, which have become more relevant in recent times," he stated.

At this event, the lecturer also announced the submitted best videos. The group of Juan Fath Ibrahim, Nailul Murad, and Muhammad Wahyudi was awarded the best movie. Juan stated that this is a good project, especially for master's students at FIS.

Moreover, their videos are closely related to the current situation and information about the Indonesian Muslim community, with its diversity. "This project is worthy of development; it is for sharpening the students' creativity," he said.

He hoped that this project could start at the beginning of the semester because the students needed time to gather all of the information and materials. He also hoped that this project's effect would bring society's attention to phenomena that occurred around it.

There have been five movies shown at this event. Here is the list of films:

  • Back to the Past, Back to the Future: Salafist Lifestyle in Modern Indonesia (Alviani Rachma and Yustrina Azimah)
  • Making Silent Islam Louder: The Deaf Muslim and Silent Pesantren in Yogyakarta (Juan Fath Ibrahim, Nailul Murad, and Muhammad Wahyudi)
  • Discovering Islam in a City of Harry Potter (Maysa Sonia and Nur Azka)
  • Indonesian Women: Courage Within Limits (Izza Annafisatud Daniah) Harmony in Duality (Husni Mulyawati and Diah Ayu)

FIS will upload those five movies to ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ’s Youtube channel, so stay tuned!
